De’Gabriel Floyd could not have had a better time during his Texas visit this weekend.

And now the Longhorns have to be considered a major contender in his recruitment although the four-star linebacker from Westlake Village (Calif.) Westlake plans to take his time.

Floyd’s interaction with the players and especially the coaching staff seemed to stand out most during his time in Austin.

“What stood out for me the most was the family environment,” Floyd said.

“Everyone felt like one of my boys that I’ve known for a while or a family member. I was able to vibe and get comfortable with everyone on campus - coaches, players, staff members as well. I felt like I didn’t even leave home. I feel welcome and a part of the culture.”

During his time at Texas, the former USC pledge spent a lot of time with coach Tom Herman and defensive coordinator/linebackers coach Todd Orlando.

It could have only helped the Longhorns’ chances.

“Coach Orlando and coach Herman are my dogs,” Floyd said.

“Me and them have a relationship that is so laid back and I love it. It’s easy to see the different sides to them because there’s really only two from what I’ve seen and that’s the cool, down-to-earth, laid back side and the I-need-the-best-players-to-take-care-of-business side and I love that.”

Texas, TCU and Oregon are three programs that have been talking a lot with Floyd, who also recently landed an offer from Auburn. He remains open to all programs and does not plan to make another commitment before his senior season.
