Alize Jones has four stars next to his name. He has plenty of early scholarship offers and has reason to think more options will be made available with time.
What he doesn't have yet is a group of favorites. Just two games into his junior year, the Las Vegas Bishop Gorman tight end doesn't want any part of that conversation - not yet, at least.
"I'm neutral for now," Jones said on Saturday. "I'll probably come out with my favorites once I get a chance to visit some of the schools."
There are no dates for such trips set as of now, but Jones has a few destinations in mind. He's thinking about taking a handful of unofficials following his junior season. And while he reserves the right to change his mind, the targets have already emerged.
Some are local. Some are in a different time zone. Jones is a national-level prospect and his recruitment will reflect that.
"I want to check out USC," Jones said. "That's right here close, so I'll probably just drive down there. I want to check out Tennessee. I want to go back to Notre Dame. I want to check out Baylor and Arizona State. That's it for right now."
When Jones starts to speak about what kind of offense he'd prefer to play in at the next level, the conversation snaps back to the Irish. He maintains that he has no favorites in the process, but there is no denying Notre Dame has something working for it.
"I just want to go to an offense where they use the tight end," Jones said. "I want a place where they pass the ball, and spread the tight end out wide. Kind of like Notre Dame did with Tyler Eifert, you know?"
As for relationships, Jones said he is still building them. He said he doesn't feel particularly close to many coaches at this juncture. He's working on that, though, and some staffs already have a leg up on the pack.
"I talked to the tight end coach at Notre Dame at their camp, Coach [Scott] Booker. He's a really great guy. I talked to UCLA's Coach [David] Marsh, too. He's really cool. Those are the only two coaches I really got a chance to get to know, but they're really cool guys."
Jones currently holds 12 scholarship offers and was included on the recently released Rivals250 watch list for the class of 2015.
