RANCHO CUCAMONGA, Calif. - Jeremiah Criddell is one of the top 2019 prospects in the West and the four-star cornerback continues to land major offers.
At the recent Ground Zero Media Day, the Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei prospect who played his junior season at Rancho Cucamonga had just landed an offer from Oklahoma and there’s already significant interest in the Sooners.
Since that time, Baylor and Florida have also offered.
"Coach (Kerry) Cooks hit me up and we’ve been talking ever since,” Criddell said of Oklahoma. “He’s just been looking around to see who I am and he finally talked to the coaching staff and I got the offer.
“Looking at the Georgia game and seeing how they played, it looks like their defensive back corps is coached up well. It’s a really big school in my recruitment.”
The Sooners have had tremendous recruiting success in California, most recently landing five-star CB Brendan Radley-Hiles, who played his senior year at Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy but who’s originally from the Los Angeles area.
For Criddell, that’s not crucial but it does help Oklahoma’s chances.
“That’s not really going to set it off but it is good you have other California guys out there,” Criddell said.
A return trip to Washington is important to Criddell, who’s expected to visit the Huskies with four-star RB and Mater Dei teammate Sean Dollars.
Criddell is seriously considering official trips to Notre Dame, Alabama and Oklahoma so far.
“I just want to check in on the staff and make sure everything is good,” Criddell said of Washington. “I just want to see the stuff I haven’t seen yet and I want to hang out more with the players.”
It’s early but the four-star cornerback said Washington, Notre Dame, TCU and Alabama are some standouts in his recruitment.
USC will always be a contender but Criddell said he needs to continue to build the relationship with those coaches.
“Coach (Ronnie) Bradford hits me up pretty often but it’s a relationship that still has to grow and we still have to get closer,” Criddell said. “USC is always a really big school in my recruitment.”
As for UCLA, Criddell was close with former defensive backs coach Demetrice Martin and said he hasn’t talked a whole lot with the Bruins’ new staff. Florida State has been showing the most new interest.
