Mitchell said he spoke with coaches from South Carolina, Georgia, Auburn,
Florida, Tennessee, Alabama and Florida State, while others left messages while
the family was away.
"My top five is Florida, Tennessee, South Carolina, Georgia
and Auburn," he said. "I've based that mainly on just talking to the coaches. I
had some real good conversations with Florida, Tennessee and South Carolina."
Is there a favorite in that mix?
"Not really," he said. "But those three kind of stood out."
Mitchell, who threw for 2,086 yards and 23 touchdowns as a
junior in leading LaGrange to the 3A state championship, has offers from Auburn,
Florida, Florida State, LSU, South Carolina and Tennessee.
The home state Bulldogs have yet to offer, and it's
reflected in his top five.
"I'm not sure what's going to happen there," he said.
"They're not the highest on my list."
Mitchell (6-4, 180, 4.7) has led LaGrange to victories in
its first two games this season. He's thrown the ball sparingly in victories of
24-0 and 49-0, but has completed nine of 15 passes for 244 yards and two
touchdowns.
He's a member of the Rivals.com Georgia Top 50
team and one of the nation's top-rated pro-style quarterbacks.
