Four-Star Friday: Introducing 10 new four-stars in the 2023 class

Spring camp and 7-on-7 season are nearing their end and many elite prospects have emerged. In this week’s Four-Star Friday we have rated some of those elite prospects in the 2023 class, which will be expanded from its current Rivals100 to the Rivals250 this summer. Take a look at these 10 new four-stars in the 2023 class.

“Cedric Baxter makes a huge impact at running back and safety and on either side of the ball he's dynamic and really fun to watch. The former Florida State pledge is a big running back who's surprisingly nimble on his feet, patiently runs behind his blocks, has great balance and is tough to bring down because he's so big. A comparison to Derrick Henry might be a little overstated, but they have similar running styles. At safety, Baxter comes up quickly to blow up screens, he can cover in space and his length is great on the back end. “All the physical tools are there for Tennessee's Luke Brown to be an elite left tackle at the next level. The 6-foot-6, 300-pound prospect plays with length and moves well for a player his size. There are technical aspects of his game that will need to be developed, but that's true for any young offensive lineman. As a sophomore, Brown showed the ability to handle speed off the edge, battle in the trenches and get second level and locate his blocks. His offer list is approaching 20 total schools, with Auburn, Louisville, Ole Miss and Virginia being the most recent additions.” - Josh Helmholdt, national recruiting analyst

“At 6-foot-6 and 270 pounds Markis Deal plays in the trenches on both sides of the ball for Garland (Texas) Naaman Forest and has the options to play guard, tackle or defensive tackle at the next level. Deal is massively sized with twitch and a range of pass-rush moves at his disposal. He also plays low with requisite toughness to battle and overpower in the trenches and finish through contact. Deal has the size to play offensive tackle with a skill-set that would also translate well to guard and there's a desire to continue to develop as a defensive lineman. “What stands out most about Deric English is his ability to make tough catches and adjust his body to come down with the football. He makes something very difficult to do look very easy and it makes him one of the best receivers in the West because of it. English is also excellent at setting up his cornerbacks by not always running at lightning speed and then accelerating by them when the ball is in the air. The Arizona schools, along with Florida State, Michigan State and Oregon, have jumped out with early offers.” - Gorney

“The first three offers for St. Louis 2023 cornerback Christian Gray came in from Iowa State, Kansas State and Kentucky over the last few months, but look for that list to expand quickly, especially if Gray hits the camp circuit this month. He was a standout at the Rivals Camp in Indianapolis last month, showing he could lock up the top upper-class receivers who were in attendance with regularity. Gray is fluid with good instincts and size for the position at 6-foot and 175 pounds. He is the latest in a line of four-star St. Louis defensive backs the city has produced in recent classes.” - Helmholdt

“One of the most intriguing edge defenders in the 2023 class is Tennessee's Caleb Herring. At 6-foot-5 and 210 pounds, there is a lot of room on his frame to add weight. Right now we list him as an outside linebacker, but he already plays a downhill brand of football that is meant to put pressure on the quarterback, and his blend of size and athleticism has schools across the country intrigued. Herring has a dozen offers to his credit already from the likes of Baylor, Michigan, South Carolina and Tennessee.” - Helmholdt

“Kayin Lee is a long defensive back with outstanding speed and a physical attitude. Receivers have to be on their game when they try to get open against him. Lee does a good job tracking the ball in the air and makes plenty of plays on the ball. His offer sheet is already loaded and his newest offer, Ohio State, came after an outstanding camp performance in Columbus earlier this week.” - Adam Friedman, national recruiting analyst/rankings director

“Braxton Myers is a prototypical big-framed defensive back with position versatility to play cornerback or back deep at safety. At 6-foot-1 and 190 pounds, Myers can shadow receivers downfield and is disciplined in coverage. He's got length and is pesky attacking the ball, even after the play, and isn't shy about being physical on the back end of the defense. LSU, Texas, Michigan and Oklahoma are early offers.” - Spiegelman

“Ashton Porter is a versatile piece for defensive coordinators to use all over the defensive line. At 6-foot-3 and 230 pounds, Porter can rush the quarterback off the edge and provide an even better pass rush from an interior spot. He's an effort rusher that'll penetrate with effort as well as his assortment of pass-rush moves and notable length for the position. Porter is a second- and third-effort sort of pass-rusher that will also clog up holes in the running game and has even more potential as he continues to add power to his game. Cal, Texas, Baylor and Arizona State are all involved here.” - Spiegelman

“Rico Walker is a big athlete that could play on either side of the ball at the college level, but his future is most likely at the outside linebacker position. He does a good job playing in space and has the athleticism to stick with running backs and tight ends in coverage. Walker is getting more comfortable at the position, and he showed a lot of development during his sophomore season this spring. His offer sheet already has some big-time programs on it like Georgia, North Carolina and Penn State.” - Friedman
