Four-star Devon Lawrence is a man of few words but he took some time after his game on Friday to update his recruitment. Clemson, Tennessee, North Carolina, and UCLA were the top four schools for the Wake Forest, N.C. running back but now he has cut his list down to two and moved his decision date up after an official visit to Chapel Hill.
IN HIS OWN WORDS…
“It (the official visit to North Carolina) went well,” Lawrence said. “I had a good time out there. (My biggest takeaways were) how I felt around the team and the coaches. They treated me with the upmost respect and they were down to earth. My hosts were cool and we had a good time. I’ve always had strong feelings towards Carolina. I’m just waiting things out.
When asked if North Carolina is the team to beat: “Yes, you could say that,” he said.
“It’s just North Carolina and UCLA now,” said Lawrence. “I think I’ll commit in November because I leave in December.”
“We are setting up my official visit to UCLA for the Oregon game,” he said. “I like that the team never gives up. I feel like I could put in a lot of work in wherever I go.”
RIVALS’ REACTION
Lawrence eliminating Clemson is big news. His brother is the Tigers’ star defensive lineman Dexter Lawrence so many people thought the younger Lawrence would eventually end up a Tiger. North Carolina is the clear favorite and Lawrence essentially admits it. The Tar Heels don’t have a running back commitment in this class just yet and Lawrence would be a very talented addition that should excite North Carolina fans. UCLA is a bit of a long shot but official visits can change everything so everybody will have to wait to hear how Lawrence’s trip to the west coast goes.
