Delray Beach, Fla. — Tyler Scott lives in Florida. Always has. When it comes to football, however, the four-star defensive back considers himself a West Coast guy. Scott may live in play high school football in Ft. Lauderdale, but he’s not shy when it comes to talking about his California aspirations.
“I really want those West Coast schools,” Scott said on Friday. “That’s where I’m looking. So you already know I like Stanford. I really like UCLA and want that offer. I like USC, too. I like those types of schools.”
But there’s one particular Golden State-based school at the front of his mind. A class-of-2019 prospect, Scott has been in frequent contact with Stanford for months. Now, he’s awaiting an offer and seems to have confidence in its arrival.
“I have Stanford coming in on me,” Scott said. “I might go out to the West Coast and watch one of their games on a visit. I don’t know.”
As for the allure of the West Coast, Scott says it’s a matter of fit. His feelings on the region don’t have anything to do with California weather or a change of scenery. Instead, his take is based in football.
“I just like the Pac 12,” Scott said. “I like they way they play. I like the speed of the game and all the zone concepts. It stands out to me.”
But Scott will certainly consider Southeast-based offers should they arrive. In fact, the four-star defensive back already has one in mind. If the Gators become an option for him, his view on the recruiting process may shift.
“Definitely Florida,” Scott said. “I’m never ruling them out. They’ve been talking to me and inviting me to games, but we don’t have that real connection just yet.”
Scott, who attends Ft. Lauderdale University School, is ranked as the No. 4 safety and the No. 87 overall prospect in the class of 2019.
