Four-star DE ready for trip to Blacksburg

Hampton (Va.) Bethel defensive end Chris Ellis embarks on his official visit tour this weekend with a trip to Virginia Tech. Do the Hokies still lead in the battle for his services?
"I don't have a leader really," said the 6-foot-5, 230-pounder. "I'm going to try to take all five visits but I could also decide after my Virginia trip on Jan. 17. I don't want to go too far away from home."

Ellis visits the Hokies this weekend and has a few weeks off before Maryland (Jan. 10) and Virginia. If he can't make up his mind by then, he has trips set with Tennessee on Jan. 24 and NC State on Jan. 31.
"I'd like to take all five trips, but Tennessee is probably too far away and NC State hasn't really been recruiting as hard as the others," he said. "It will probably come down to Virginia Tech and Virginia."
Ellis had been favoring the Hokies for the longest time based on his familiarity with their defense (he wasn't sure about UVA's 3-4 scheme) and his friendship with many of the players. Now it's a toss-up.
"I have grown to really like Virginia a lot," he said. "My recruiting coach, Mike London, was in my house this week to meet my mom for the first time. She loved him and if it was up to her, I'd be committed to Virginia right now.
"But she knows I have to make my own decision and that I like Tech a lot too. I was hoping all the top players in Virginia would be at Tech this weekend, but Xavier (Adibi) and Phillip (Brown) are still playing. The coaches told me that Vince Hall might be there on an unofficial visit though and I know Terrell Golden is a great player and he'll be there."
Is there any chance that Ellis commits this weekend?
"No, I don't see that happening," he said. "I made a promise to Virginia that I'd at least see them first and I'm really torn between the two schools now. This is going to be a lot harder than I thought."
