Victor Abiamiri is the top pass rusher in Maryland and is considered one of the most dominant defensive players in the nation. Not much has changed regarding his favorites, but he now has a solid top five and distance is not a factor.
“My top five schools are Maryland, Stanford, UCLA, Notre Dame, and North Carolina,” the 6-foot-5, 245-pound defensive end said. “Most people realized pretty early on that distance isn’t going to be that big of a factor when I make my decision. Sure, I noticed Maryland because they’re so close to home, but all my favorites are dead even at this point.”
As a junior at Randallstown (Md.) Gilman, Abiamiri recorded 15 sacks as a defensive end, and plans on playing tight end this year as well. He runs the 40-yard dash in an amazing 4.5 seconds, a time some defense backs would envy.
With practice well underway for Abiamiri, and the season approaching, he had a chance to highlight his skills in a scrimmage against St. John’s on Saturday.
“We had a scrimmage against St. John’s, Conrad Bolston’s team. He was really good, and quick. I thought our team played really well. I had a sack and I caught a pass for about 15 yards. If we can continue to improve on how we’re playing so far, then I think we do some good things.”
So as the season approaches, Abiamiri expects that his recruitment will intensify.
“I’m getting mail from Notre Dame and Maryland pretty much every day, and the same is true with a couple of other schools. I think after the season I’ll have a better idea of when I would like to make my decision.”
