Four-star continues to put on a show

Currently in the city of Nashville, there aren't too many games bigger than Maplewood High School vs. Hillsboro High School. Hillsboro has been a force in the 4A classification for the last decade but last season, Maplewood upended Hillsboro's playoff run and set the stage for a regular region battle for years to come.

On Thursday night Hillsboro was looking for redemption following that playoff loss last season and found it in the form of a 28-12 region win. A major factor in that win was four-star cornerback prospect Eric Gordon.

"Honestly, we were so devastated by the loss last year that we just wanted to come back and play hard," Gordon said. "We played with a lot of emotion and a lot of passion, plus we had a great week of practice so it kind of paid off at the end."

Gordon has been the big play man for his team this season and Thursday night was no different. Not only did he open up the scoring for his team with a 72-yard touchdown reception but he sealed the game with a 95-yard interception returned for a touchdown in the fourth quarter with Maplewood driving.

Though Gordon has found a way to make big plays in every game, his team hasn't always come out with a victory. Hillsboro improved to 3-2 but it's first two losses (Franklin High School and Montgomery Bell Academy) were to two of the best teams in the state.

"Playing the No. 1 (MBA) and No. 3 (Franklin) teams in the state and then coming out and playing a good team like this, it's definitely a positive," said the four-star.

Though things are coming easy for him on the field, the recruiting process is tougher to handle.

"It's really tough," he said of the process. "I think I'm going to UT tomorrow to see them play Florida. It's a situation where I'm just trying to focus on my team right now."

Gordon has yet to schedule any official visits but he recently sent in his paperwork to get cleared by the NCAA Clearinghouse. When those papers go through, he plans to make some visit plans.

"I've got about five or six schools I'm looking at," he said. "Tennessee, Alabama, Miami, Oklahoma, Louisville and Texas Tech. I saw Texas Tech was here tonight."
