As a recruit: Harrison committed to North Carolina nearly 18 months before Signing Day in 2015. But as his career went along his recruiting exploded, and he flipped to Alabama during the summer of 2014. Despite a late charge from Georgia, Alabama held on to land Harrison.

What he did this week: Harrison was lauded by Alabama coaches during the recruiting process and he’s more than lived up to the hype during his time in Tuscaloosa. After seeing the field as a reserve his freshman season, he was among the Tide’s team leaders in tackles in 2016. This year he’s having another big season and in Saturday’s win over Arkansas he was all over the field, recording 10 tackles as well as one pass deflection. Alabama’s defense is known for having quality players in the secondary and Harrison is just the latest in a long line of talented safeties to play in Tuscaloosa.

As a recruit: Haughton was one of the few prospects to follow through on his promise of taking all five official visits, making trips to Oklahoma, Arkansas, Baylor, Nebraska and Texas Tech during the fall of his senior season in 2014. After visiting those programs and then hosting them for in-home visits, Haughton made the call for the Sooners a week before Christmas.

What he did this week: After spending the first two years of his career in Norman as mostly a reserve, Haughton has worked his way into the playing rotation in 2017. This season he’s already matched his previous season-high in tackles and in Saturday’s win over arch-rival Texas, Haughton was second on the team with six solo tackles. With Oklahoma looked for playmakers on defense, Haughton’s big game was a welcome sight and Sooners fans are hoping it’s a sign of more productivity to come.

As a recruit: A native of Houston, Monroe quickly become a favorite target of schools in the Lone Star State and a national offer list followed shortly thereafter. Despite all the interest, LSU quickly emerged as the favorite to land Monroe and he made his commitment official during the summer prior to his senior season and he never wavered on the Tigers.

What he did this week: LSU has turned its season around over the past two weeks and Monroe has played a major part in that revival. In Saturday’s comeback victory over Auburn, he had five total tackles and two pass deflections and was praised by Tigers coaches for his coverage skills after the game. Monroe had to wait his turn to get on the field, but he looks like he could be a future star for LSU.

As a recruit: Kinnel didn’t want long to commit to Michigan after picking up an offer from the Wolverines early in his high school career, making his pledge official in Aug. 2013, nearly 18 months before he would sign his letter-of-intent. Despite his longtime love for the Wolverines, Notre Dame made a late push and even hosted him for an official visit before a later trip to Ann Arbor eased any concerns Kinnel might have had.

What he did this week: After playing mostly on special teams and as a reserve during his first two years with the Wolverines, Kinnel has stepped into the starting role and had a pretty good season as a starter in 2017. In Saturday’s overtime victory over Indiana, Kinnel had six total tackles, as well as one tackle for loss, one pass deflection and one key interception. With Michigan’s offense struggling at times this year, the defense has had to step up and players like Kinnel stepping into the lineup have shown the depth Jim Harbaugh has built on the roster.
