WACO, Texas — Waco (Texas) Connally four-star cornerback Kobe Black returned to the field last Thursday in a scrimmage against Lorena as he prepares to take a bigger role on both sides of the ball for his Cadets team in 2022.

For Black, he is excited about proving his worth as one of the top 2024 prospects in the state of Texas.

"Very excited," Black said. "Our team is looking real good, we're coming together. Friday night football, everybody loves it. I feel like I put in a whole lot of work this offseason and I'm real excited about my abilities. Y'all haven't seen nothing yet."

This summer, Black took visits to Texas, Texas A&M, LSU, Arkansas and Oklahoma.

At Texas, an early relationship with cornerbacks coach Terry Joseph has the Longhorns standing out.

"It's the DB coach and his family," he said. "Everybody tells the truth. He told me he'll get a corner in and he says he wants to go out and find another one even better than you. He just always tells the truth."

At Texas A&M, a genuine feel around campus has Black invested in the Aggies early on.

"It's like family," he said. "They're real together, it's just A&M."

Arkansas has done a solid job of making Black feel like its top priority in the 2024 class, as a big season could have the Razorbacks in a solid position moving forward.

"They treated me like I was a big target for them," he said. "That really made me feel good about myself, they treat me like I'm their top 2024."

LSU's new staff has intrigued Black, as well as the rich history in the secondary in Baton Rouge.

"They're on the come up too, it's DBU," Black said. "I know if I'm going there, I'm getting coached by the best guys and some great coaches all around the staff."

Oklahoma's energy under the Sooners' new coaching staff stood out on his trip to Norman.

"Their energy, they got real good energy there," he said. "It's fun, they play fast. I like OU, too."

Of the schools recruiting him, Black says that Arkansas, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and LSU are recruiting him the hardest. As for fall game visits, Black has his eyes set on a handful of regional games.

"I'm gonna of course go to Oklahoma State to see my brother (Korie Black)," he said. "I'll go catch LSU-Alabama, a Baylor game of course and a Texas game."

Of programs that have not offered, Black says that Florida, Mississippi State, Georgia and Alabama have all been in touch.

At 6-foot-1, 179 pounds, Black is the No. 113 ranked recruit in the country for the class of 2024, according to Rivals. He is the No. 14 ranked cornerback in the country and the No. 15 recruit from the state of Texas.
