LSU has pulled off a flip in the 2025 class as the Tigers steal away four-star cornerback Kade Phillips away from the Texas Longhorns.
Phillips had been committed to Texas since early July. The Tigers came in second at the time.
But, roughly six weeks later, Brian Kelly, Corey Raymond, and the LSU staff were able to reel him back to their side.
Phillips talked about his decision to make the move and commit to LSU.
"I feel like LSU has always really been in the race. You know, ever since I committed [to Texas], they were still hitting me up every day. The whole coaching staff just checking in on me and just letting me know that they still really wanted me, even though that I decided to go elsewhere at first."
The consistent love from LSU began to build up, leading to Phillips discussing a move with his family.
"I would say like a week ago," on when Phillips knew he wanted to commit to LSU. "Me and my parents really just sat down and were thinking about it. Then after, that's when I really came to my decision."
Following the decision was a phone call to Corey Raymond to let him know he was making the move.
"They were hyped up of course, they were very excited for me. They're just ready for me to get down there and go to work."
The 6-foot-2 defender from Missouri City, Texas ranks as the No. 27 cornerback in the class of 2025. He joins three-star Jhase Thomas, four-star CJ Jimcoilyand five-star DJ Pickett as the four defensive backs in the Tigers' 2025 class.
The flip moves LSU to 24 total commitments in the 2025 class, which matches Ohio State, who is ranked right above them and holds the top spot in 2025. The Tigers have three five-stars, 17 four-stars and four three-stars thus far in the cycle.
