Four-star Cameron Phillips checks out Michigan State

The Michigan State Spartans hosted a large contingent of recruiting visitors for their home match-up with Notre Dame on Saturday. Among those in attendance was Westerville (Ohio) Central four-star 2019 wide receiver Cameron Phillips.

“It was my second time up there,” Phillips explained. “I really like their style of play and I have a pretty good connection with the wide receivers coach. They have a good business program too, which I like.”

Phillips holds five scholarship offers. Michigan State is not among that group yet, but the Spartans have been showing strong interest as of late.

“I was supposed to talk to the wide receivers coach after the game, but since they took that hard loss he couldn’t come up,” Phillips explained. “He was talking about an offer, but I’ll have to call him this week.”

The only other school Phillips has visited for a game this season is Penn State, which also has yet to offer.

“I just started my relationship with them, so we’re just getting to know each other and they’re evaluating me,” Phillips said. “I should be getting feedback pretty soon.”

The schools that have extended an offer to Phillips are Cincinnati, Illinois, Minnesota, Pittsburgh and Wisconsin. The most recent of those offers came from Pittsburgh in June.

“I went on an unofficial there in the summer,” Phillips said. “It was nice and I liked it a lot. I liked the city a lot and it was nice to see that.”

Additional visits are being planned to Minnesota on Oct. 14, Wisconsin on Nov. 18 and Michigan on Nov. 25.

Ranked as the No. 26 athlete prospect in the 2019 class, the 6-foot-1, 183-pound Phillips is seeing most of his college attention coming for his play on the offensive side of the football.

“The only school that has offered me as an athlete is Illinois,” Phillips said. “Wisconsin, Pitt and Cincinnati have offered me as a receiver. I have been doing that the most and feel comfortable at receiver.”
