Four-star athlete establishes recruiting timetable

THE LATEST: Houston Griffith is not interested in tipping his hand. The four-star athlete openly admits his intentions to announce a top-10 sometime this summer. He’ll also cop to knowing a few schools that will make that list when it debuts. It’s just that he has no intention of sharing those schools with the larger public.

In the end, it’s not as though a top-10 is particularly newsworthy. It’s not hard to infer a few colleges that will make Griffith’s list. He talks about which schools keep in most frequent contact and it seems obvious that a few – if not most – of those names will make the cut.

“I can’t really give you those schools that are in there yet,” Griffith said. “I can’t say.”

“The schools talking to me the most are, right now, Ohio State. I talk to them like every other week. Then, like, Penn State, Michigan, Tennessee and Georgia.

Originally from the Chicano area, Griffith attends Florida’s IMG Academy. He is ranked as the No. 2 athlete and the No. 37 overall prospect in the class of 2018.

IN HIS WORDS: “I’m probably going to visit some schools this spring. I’ll come out with a top-10 this summer and hopefully committed either before the season or right near the start of the season.”

“Being down at IMG, I’m not homesick anymore. I have family all over the country. I don’t care how far it is from Chicago.”

RIVALS REACTION: Ohio State and Michigan will likely be in this until the end. The same goes for Notre Dame, depending on the kind of product the Irish put on the field this fall. Georgia will also probably hand around in Griffith’s recruitment but, at this point, the Chicago native seems more likely to head north for college than hang around the Southeast.
