TIMPSON, Texas — Timpson (Texas) 2024 four-star athlete Terry Bussey has gotten off to a hot start to his junior season as he has his Bears team off to a 2-0 start behind his strong play on both sides of the ball.

For Bussey, it's been good to get back on the field with his team after coming up short in the state semifinals in 2021 to eventual state champion Shiner.

"It feels good to get back on the field with the team and my guys just having fun," Bussey said. "Just being locked in the game, paying attention and just doing what I need to do. I was in the weight room all summer working on conditioning and getting bigger. I feel real physical right now."

On the recruiting side of things, Bussey had a big offseason that resulted in eight offers including five from Power Five programs. Some schools are recruiting Bussey as a receiver and others are pursuing him as a defensive back, but the four-star has no preference as of now.

Texas Tech became Bussey's first Power Five offer in March and has stayed in contact through director of recruiting James Blanchard and defensive backs coach Marcel Yates.

"Texas Tech has been recruiting me hard these past few weeks and months," he said. "I talk to Coach Blanchard and their DBs coach. [Blanchard] seems like a really cool guy but I haven't got to meet them yet."

Texas A&M has been the only SEC school to extend an offer after Bussey had a strong camp performance in College Station back in June that caught the attention of the staff. Since then, he has stayed in contact with graduate assistants Rohan Gaines and Antonio Cromartie.

"I went up there during the summer," he said. "It's a cool place, I like the connection and relationship we're building."

Baylor is another in-state program that has extended an offer as the Bears have worked hard on building an early relationship through cornerbacks coach Kevin Curtis.

"Their DBs coach is recruiting me real hard," he said. "The visit up there, it was really cool people up there, I had a good camp and there were great facilities."

Oregon has extended an early offer and has generated interest with Bussey early on.

"I've talked to Oregon a bit," he said. "I'd love to go out there, it seems like a really cool place."

Now that the recruiting attention has come for Bussey, there is just one thing that he has his eyes set on: a state championship.

"Just go win with my boys," he said. "I want to win it all this year."

At 6-foot-0, 180 pounds, Bussey is the No. 241 ranked recruit in the country for the class of 2024, according to Rivals. He is the No. 25 ranked athlete in the country and the No. 31 recruit from the state of Texas.
