Four-star ATH solid with Huskies

Four-star athlete Brandon Wellington thought his recruitment would slow down when he committed to Washington last summer, but that has not been the case.
The Rivals250 member added an offer from TCU last week and has been hearing pitches from Arizona and UCLA in recent weeks. Yet despite the advances from other schools, the 6-foot, 215-pound prospect from Bellevue (Wash.) Eastside Catholic said he's completely solid with the Huskies.

"Everything is good," Wellington said. "With coach (Chris) Petersen doing what he's doing there is remarkable. He's come in from Boise and changed the personality of that program. The coaching staff is just honest with you about everything. They tell you straight up and don't sugar coat anything when talking about things to work on and what they expect you to do there."
The Huskies picked up a commitment from three-star safety Taylor Rapp last week and also hosted two other local prospects on campus, four-star cornerback Isaiah Gilchrist and three-star defensive end Amandre' Williams. Wellington, the No. 2 rated prospect in the state, said he likes Petersen's approach to keep all the local talent in Seattle.
"They're doing a great job of keeping everyone in state that needs to stay in state," Wellington said. "Just being a new coach there, he's been recruiting very well. In this recruiting class I think we're capable of a lot of things. There is still a lot of the year left and games to play, so there are a lot of people to keep recruiting."
Wellington said he's doing some recruiting of his own, reaching out to some out-of-state prospects to convince them to at least visit Washington.
While he's done his best to build the class, Wellington has also been hearing from other coaches. TCU reached out recently and extended a scholarship offer, his fifth.
"I was caught off guard," Wellington said. "But when I did commit, coach Petersen told me it would just be the start of it all. Schools are selling me on their campus, but I'm not sure I'll take any trips. I might take a TCU visit. Their program and them coming out of nowhere to be a contender is impressive. Their philosophy on defense is something I'm interested in."
Wellington was credited with 44 total tackles, including six for a loss, and two interceptions as a junior last fall, guiding Eastside Catholic to a state crown. He rushed for 460 yards and nine touchdowns on 87 carries, and caught 12 passes for 86 yards.
