SHENANDOAH, Texas — The Woodlands (Texas) four-star quarterback Mabrey Mettauer has been one of the more highly recruited signal-callers in the 2024 class from the state of Texas, as he continued his junior season with a win over district foe Conroe Oak Ridge last night.

This season, Mettauer has a year of experience under his belt and more weapons on offense to dish out to.

"It's good to see our team's chemistry and how we've been doing in practice play out when we get on the field," Mettauer said. "It's been super cool seeing it all play out how we wanted to. I'm surrounded by a bunch of athletes. I'm blessed, they make my job way easier."

Sept. 1 was a big day for Mettauer as his phone and mailbox were filled with just about every letter he could think of.

"It was crazy, it was like Christmas," he said. "When I came home, there were literally like 200 letters. All of my offers, we're all in connection still. I'm also talking to Tennessee, Auburn, Texas A&M and Florida State. I had a few head coaches text me. Mack Brown, Coach Dave Aranda from Baylor and Mike Leach from Mississippi State."

North Carolina is a school Mettauer has taken a visit to that has resonated with him and his family because of the genuineness of those in Chapel Hill.

"It's a big family atmosphere," he said. "They make me feel at home when I'm out there. They're great people all around."

Baylor has had a long-standing relationship with Mettauer through quarterbacks coach Shawn Bell.

"Close to home, I like that," he said. "Coach Bell is a super great guy. I've built that relationship from since a year ago. It's definitely one of my favorites."

Mettauer will be at Wisconsin this weekend to take in the Badgers' game against Washington State as he looks forward to building on his relationship with that staff.

"I got the offer mid-June, and that relationship has been building over the last couple of months and it's been really good," he said. "I've just heard that the Big Ten is a different breed of ball, so just seeing that atmosphere of football in the north will be dope."

As for a commitment timeline, Mettauer is going at his own speed and is shooting for next spring to be around the time he pins one school down.

"Probably around spring ball next year," he said. "I'm not gonna let them rush my commitment. I want to just enjoy the journey."

At 6-foot-6, 220 pounds, Mettauer is the No. 162 ranked recruit in the country for the class of 2024, according to Rivals. He is the No. 11 ranked pro-style quarterback in the country and the No. 21 recruit from the state of Texas.
