RIVERSIDE, Calif. - One of the best cornerbacks in the West, if not the country, four schools are starting to make a big impression on four-star Mykael Wright.

Arizona, Oregon, Washington and USC are looking good early on for the Valencia, Calif., star and Wright said this weekend at the King of the IE tournament that some visits could also be coming up.

“I’m going to try to make it out to a couple junior days in the spring,” Wright said. “There’s a 50/50 chance I can get out to Oregon, I’m going to try to get out to Tennessee and I’ll probably go to the Arizona junior day. That’s it.”

Wright’s relationship with Arizona’s new cornerbacks coach Demetrice Martin, especially from his time at UCLA, is a big factor for the Wildcats.

“Coach (Martin), the new DB coach, he’s been talking to me and he likes the way I play,” Wright said. “He’s trying to stay in contact with me and he’s trying to recruit me as hard as possible.

“(Martin) was the one that recruited me at UCLA so we had a lot of contact then. When he went to Arizona, we still stay in touch.”

A previous relationship with new Oregon assistant coach Donte Williams could be crucial in Wright’s recruitment.

“He offered me at Nebraska and then moved to Oregon,” Wright said. “We still stay in touch there.”

Washington is also a major player for the four-star cornerback as he continues to build a bond with assistant coach Jimmy Lake.

“Coach Lake said that he really liked my film and he said I was the first corner in the class of 2019 that he offered,” Wright said. “He said that he really likes the way I play.”

USC is also making a push. The coaches there have talked to Wright about possibly playing on both sides of the ball - and they compared him to a recent star for the Trojans. It left a major impression.

“The cornerbacks coach was recruiting me first and then the offensive coordinator watched my film and he said he liked me at receiver,” Wright said.

“If I go to USC, I could potentially be like Adoree’ Jackson and they could play me on defense and try to get me in as much as they can on offense.”

As for new interest, Wright said Notre Dame is getting more involved.
