Former Miami commit to check out USF, others

Nick Roberts
Nick Roberts

Nick Roberts’ commitment to Miami his firmly in the past.

The three-star defensive back says he’ll still consider the Hurricanes despite his choice to back off his longstanding verbal commitment to the program weeks ago, but a reunion seems unlikely at best.

Instead, there are new schools in play.

“I visiting USF on July 23,” Roberts said. “I want to take a trip to UCLA, but I don’t know when.”

According to Roberts, the full list of schools under consideration is as follows: USF, North Carolina, Virginia Tech and UCLA. Of the group, the Jacksonville-based Roberts has visited only North Carolina and Virginia Tech. He walked away from the two tours with opinions he doesn’t mind sharing.

“I liked North Carolina a litter better,” Roberts said. “But I liked both of them. I loved the facilities.”

IN HIS WORDS: “I don’t know on an announcement date,” Roberts said. “I really don’t know. I’m trying to get it done with quick. I don’t; want to wait until after the season, I don’t think.”

RIVALS REACTION: North Carolina and USF seem like the most likely landing spots for Roberts, but that could change during the upcoming season. Roberts has impressive physical tools and could attract new suitors should he have a solid senior campaign. For now, however, the Tar Hells and Bulls seem like the leaders.
