Florida WR picks up first offers

One of the standouts from the Miami NIKE camp, who has finally picked up his first scholarship offers is St. Petersburg (Fla.) Lakewood wide receiver Louis Murphy. The lean wide receiver was one of the top wide receivers at camp and got instant recognition in the one-on-one segment when he faced some of the South’s best defensive back prospects.
“Right now I have offers from South Florida, Duke, Maryland and Louisville,” Murphy said. “Tennessee, Auburn and NC State have told me that they are really interested, but that they just want to see me on video and see me in camp first.”

Murphy came in at 6-foot-3, 176 pounds at the NIKE camp and ran the 40-yard dash in 4.54 seconds. He also had a vertical leap of 29 inches.
“Right now I would have to say that my top five is Tennessee, Florida State, Florida, Auburn and Duke,” Murphy said. “To be honest though I am still considering whoever wants me. I haven’t ruled anyone out yet so Maryland, Louisville, South Florida and NC State are in there as well.”
Though Murphy plays in a Wing T offense that does not throw the ball much he still managed some impressive statistics. He caught 27 passes for 525 yards and three touchdowns.
“Academics is the first thing that I am going to look at in choosing a school,” Murphy said. “I will also look at the style of offense I am going to be playing in. I would like to play for a team that throws the ball a lot. Playing time is not a big deal to me really. You have to work hard to get playing time and I am going to work hard wherever I go.”
He plans to camp at Florida this weekend and Tennessee the following week. He is also attending camps at Nebraska and Florida State.
“I just want to take some visits,” Murphy said. “I’m not going to commit to a school without visiting it first. I’m going to visit some schools over the summer and if I find the right school for me then I could commit early, but like I said I will visit a school before I commit.”
