Tampa (Fla.) Plant wide receiver Mike Williams is an intimidating force on the football field. At 6-foot-5 and 205 pounds, he’s bigger than all the cornerbacks that try to cover him. And with 4.5-second speed in the 40-yard dash, he’s also faster than a lot of them. College scouts have noticed.
“I have over 10 offers, I just don’t have the exact count,” he said. “I know I’m going to visit North Carolina on January 11th and I’ll set up the others when I can.”
Williams has offers from UNC, Clemson, Southern Cal., Florida, Florida State, Michigan State, Pitt, Boston College, Purdue and LSU. Oh yeah, there’s one more.
“Virginia is probably my favorite right now,” he said. “Coach Al Groh and Mike London are great people. I want to go to a school that will be taking about three or four wide receivers this year so I can have an even shot at playing time. I don’t want to sit for three years.”
Florida State has been his lifelong favorite, but the Seminoles already have two in their class this year and plenty of talent at the position.
“They’re always deep but I still like them,” he said. “They’re not my favorite or anything, but I’ll look at them until the end.”
And which school is recruiting you the hardest?
“Boston College,” he said. “They’re crazy man. They send like three letters every day, but coach (Jason) Swepson is cool. I don’t think I’d go there, but they sure seem to want me.”
