Florida teammates piling up offers

Scholarhip offers continue to roll in for Lakeland (Fla.) George Jenkins standouts Tyease Thompson and Mozell Axson, but the talented duo appear to be holding out for the Sunshine State’s “big three.”
“They’ve got a lot of great offers right now,” Jenkins coach Casey Vaughn said. “It’s pretty much the same teams recruiting both of them. They have offers from Iowa, Iowa State, Illinois, Kansas, LSU, Pitt, Maryland, Georgia Tech and Michigan State.

“There’s a few others, but neither one of them have been too open about where they’re leaning. I think they’re waiting to see what the in-state schools do before they do anything."
Vaughn said Florida has been to the Jenkins campus to visit with both players and watch practice. Florida State has also been in contact and requested film, as well as Central Florida and South Florida.
“We haven’t heard much from Miami, though,” he added. "The Florida schools seem to be waiting to see how it all pans out, waiting to see who performs the best this season."
Thompson (6-1, 180, 4.4) is a three-star running back who rushed for 1,800 yards and 19 touchdowns while adding up 500 yards receiving as a junior. Through two games this season, he’s recorded 355 total yards and scored four touchdowns, three through the air.
“That gives him an extra dimension,” Vaughn said. “He’s an outstanding receiver. He’s a real weapon out of our backfield whether it’s running or catching the ball.”
Axson (6-1, 230, 4.6) is a two-star inside linebacker who tallied 103 tackles as a junior. The son of former University of Miami linebacker Mozell Axson Sr., he has 21 tackles, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries this season.
“He’s been extremely active,” Vaughn said. “He’s been in the backfield a lot, making a lot of tackles for losses.”
