Florida TE commits to South Florida
On Saturday at the IMG 7-on-7 Tournament in Bradenton, Fla., Mitchell Wilcox told Rivals he was heavily leaning toward South Florida as his favorite school of his nine offers. Just hours later, he decided to commit to the Bulls.
When he took the field Sunday for Team Tampa at the tournament's finale, the 6-foot-4, 230-pound tight end from Tarpon Springs (Fla.) was ready to put the recruiting process behind him as he enters his senior season.
"I was just really weighing my options and I felt that USF was the best choice for me," Wilcox said. "I love the coaching staff, it's close to home and I get to play tight end."
Wilcox attributed his overnight decision to his "local connections enticing me to commit," including coaches and players.
He said he's relieved that his school of choice has been decided.
"It's a big step," he said. "It's one of the biggest decisions you'll make as a young athlete - a student-athlete. But I'm excited."
Other schools that had been in the mix prior to Wilcox's commitment were Florida Atlantic, and UCF.
Wilcox took home Top Performers honors for his play on Saturday, the first day of the IMG tournament.
