Florida TE commits to South Carolina

After a visit to Louisville this weekend, Fort Myers (Fla.) Riverdale tight end Mat Williams concluded his recruitment. The 6-foot-4, 225-pounder gave a verbal pledge to the Gamecocks over offers from Louisville, Ole Miss, South Florida, Duke, Pittsburgh and Wake Forest.
"Everybody kept telling him and our family that he would feel right on the right visit and we were very comfortable at South Carolina," his mother, Pamela Williams said. "We didn't expect the visit there to be as good as it was and of course coach Spurrier then coming down last week to school, that meant a lot to us.

"It showed Spurrier has a lot of faith in Mat and I think this is where he wants to be for the next four to five years. Of course, we're huge Gator fans too and coach Spurrier is a legend to us, so that helped also."
Williams did take the official to Louisville, but just didn't feel as comfortable as he did in Columbia.
"I think Matthew felt like he wanted to give Louisville a chance," she said. "I think he went into the visit with a very open mind, but he just didn't feel like he did at South Carolina."
The three-star prospect will play tight end at South Carolina.
"They have recruited him as a tight end and the coaches haven't mentioned a lot concerning playing time," she said. "They didn't tell us he'll redshirt, but he knows that's usually the way it goes and I know Mat isn't expecting to play his first year."
The entire Williams family is excited to have the recruiting process behind them.
"We're thrilled it's over, now Mat can enjoy his trip hunting over Christmas in Texas."
