Florida State offer abruptly changes Carney's recruitment

Owen Carney ()

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Already, the Florida State offer Owen Carney earned on Wednesday has taken its toll.. The top four Carney announced a few days ago now seems date. Illinois remains in the mix to some extent, but, these days, the Miami Central defensive end is all about the Seminoles.

The four-star prospect’s FSU offer came the heels of an impressive showing at camp and it almost put an abrupt end to Carney’s recruitment.

“I came close [to committing] but then I thought about what I told my parents,” Carney said. “I told them I’d never commit without their blessing. So I need to go home, think about and then something new might be coming down the following week.”

A four-star prospect, Carney plays for national powerhouse Miami Central. He’s in the midst of a huge offseason that has seen him impress at camps and stack major offers at a blistering pace.

IN HIS WORDS: “First thing they like about me is my grades and my academics. Coach [Brad] Lawing likes the way I soak up knowledge. I learned some new things yesterday, and he liked the way I adapted quickly. He said that if I come in and work hard, I could get in the rotation.”

RIVALS REACTION: The only schools alive in the race to land Carney seem to be Florida State, LSU, Duke and Illinois to some extent. Florida State has to be seen as the leader currently, but LSU could overtake the Seminoles should it make a strong push in the coming week. If not, it seems as though the four-star defensive end will commit to FSU.
