Florida State beats Georgia and Virginia Tech for DJ Lundy

A little over a week ago, it looked to be down to Georgia and Virginia Tech for DJ Lundy, a two-way star out of Ocilla (Ga.) Irwin County.

Then Florida State pushed for an in-home visit, they got it and an official visit was then set for the final weekend before Signing Day.

That visit changed Lundy's recruitment, and he just signed with the 'Noles.

"I was going to Virginia Tech," said Lundy. "Before the visit to Florida State, I was really leaning towards Virginia with Georgia still in it a little bit. The visit to Florida State changed it though.

"I loved it there. The players and coaches are like a brotherhood and I liked the vibe there a lot. I knew Sunday before leaving Florida State that, that was going to be my school."

The 6-foot-1, 230 pound athlete gave Mike Norvell the news Sunday.

"When I told coach Norvell that I was a 'Nole, he didn't believe me. He thought I was playing with him or lying to him, but I told him I was serious and he got real excited.

"He went and told the whole staff and everyone was happy. It was a lot of fun."

Lundy was drawing interest as a running back by some, but Florida State likes him on defense. Chris Marve came in, in December to coach linebackers and he and Lundy hit it off.

"Coach Marve was really a big part of my decision," said Lundy. "It was really after hanging out with him and getting to talk with him that I knew I was going to Florida State.

"I love the vibe at Florida State, it felt nice there, but hearing what coach Marve was like and who he was really helped me make my decision."

Lundy knows it will not be easy in Tallahassee. He knows he will have to work hard. The honestly about that stood out to him.

"Coach Norvell was the most real coach I have talked to," said Lundy. "He told me he was coaching to push me hard, he told me it would not be easy for anyone there, and I liked that a lot.

"He was just being 100% honest with me about him, Florida State and what I would need to expect. That stood out to me and I can't wait to get there."
