Florida running back Demarcus Townsend talks potential fit at Arkansas

The Latest: The Arkansas Razorbacks were the first major program to offer Class of 2018 running back DeMarcus Townsend, but not surprisingly several other programs have joined his list since. But even with his options expanding, Arkansas remains a school on Townsend’s mind. Rivals.com caught up with him at the recent Miami stop of the Rivals 3-Stripe Camp Series presented by adidas to talk about his thoughts on the Hawgs.

In His Words: “They were my first major offer. It’s an SEC school, big conference, the bigger the better in my opinion. They run the ball a lot. I think I would fit pretty well in the offense. It’s a nice downhill offense and it features the running backs a lot so that’s something that’s nice. I see myself as any Power Five conference running back and they were the first ones to believe in me and give me that opportunity.

On the Hawgs message: “Coach Mitchell is my recruiter there. He said they like my style of play and the way I break tackles. They like my ability as a playmaker. I’m planning on visiting in the summer time so I can see everything up there for myself.”

On which school might offer next: “I’m going to go to UCF’s junior day on April 8 and I think they might be the next to offer.”

Rivals Reaction: With Arkansas’ history of recruiting and developing quality running backs in recent years it’s not a surprise to see other programs jump in with offers in recent weeks. Townsend is likely to take a measured approach to the recruiting process, at least into the summer, so getting him to follow through with the visit to campus will be next big hurdle for Arkansas to clear in the race to land his signature.
