Florida QB picks up Auburn offer

Tallahassee (Fla.) North Florida Christian quarterback Blake Field picked up his second major scholarship offer after returning from one of many camp appearances he made this summer.
“I went to Auburn’s camp a couple of weeks ago and wound up getting an offer from coach (Steve) Ensminger,” Field said. “He said I really impressed them at camp, and they wanted me to come and play for them. I was pretty excited about that.

“I didn’t really grow up as an Auburn fan or anything, but I’ve become one after being around their coaches and the campus. They’re really personable. I felt comfortable around them.”
Could a commitment be on the horizon?
“I thought about it, but I feel like I should wait a little bit,” he said. “I’m just getting ready to start my senior season, and I’ve been concentrating on that. If I have a big year, a lot of things could develop for me. But Auburn’s definitely going to be on my list at the end.”
He also camped at Georgia Tech, Vanderbilt, Florida State and Georgia this summer.
In addition to Auburn, Field has an offer from East Carolina. He’s also receiving heavy attention from Vanderbilt as well as moderate interest from Kentucky and Clemson.
“Vanderbilt sends me a personalized note every day,” he said. “Coach (Charlie) Fisher is real nice. I like him and their other coaches. They think they can turn the program around, plus I like what they have to offer academically.
“East Carolina was the first school to offer me. I’ve got a connection there with Rick Stockstill, their offensive coordinator, played football at Florida State with my uncle. They’re real close, and he’s still real close to our whole family. I used to call him ‘Uncle Rick.’ He really wants me to come and play for him. He says he knows my ability better than anyone, and I know I can trust him.”
Field (6-3, 195, 4.68) transferred to NFC from Cairo High School this year. He has thrown for more than 3,300 yards and 23 touchdowns in his career, but is expected to add to those figures significantly with his new team.
He’s also at his best, physically, after having a bone spur removed from his throwing arm in February.
“I started feeling it around the fifth game last year,” he said. “Every time I threw, it felt like a knife being jammed into my shoulder. I’m really glad to have that fixed. My arm is better than ever now.”
Academically, Field maintains a 2.8 core GPA and has scored a 910 on the SAT.
