Florida QB getting attention

The state of Florida stands to produce several Division I-A quarterback recruits in the class of 2007. One of those likely will be Jonathan Jones of Orlando's Timber Creek High.
Northwestern, Virginia, Central Florida and Miami (Ohio) all have been in touch with the 6-foot-4, 190-pounder. Duke and Ole Miss also have sent letters. Jones has not been offered a scholarship yet.

His interest in Miami (Ohio) is due in part to Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, who led his team to a 21-10 win against Seattle on Sunday in Super Bowl XL. The Steelers selected Roethlisberger out of Miami in the 2004 draft.
Jones, who was pulling for the Steelers Sunday, believes that work ethic will drive him.
"I think there a lot of kids who have a lot of talent," he said. "But nobody works harder and nobody works faster than I do."
Jones is a pocket passer, but is mobile enough to move around in the pocket if he gets pressured.
The 6-foot-4, 190-pounder threw for 1,109 yards and eight touchdowns last season in a run-oriented offense last season.
"That's why my stats struggled a little bit," Jones said. "We had a running offense last year. We did a lot of running."
Jones plans to major in engineering. He grew up a Florida State fan and pulls for the Indianapolis Colts when watching the NFL.
Jones plans to attend Junior Days at Miami (Fla.) and Central Florida in the coming months. He also plans to compete at the Gainesville NIKE Camp, which will be held May 20 on the campus of the University of Florida.
