Florida OL getting looks

Perry (Fla.) Taylor County coach Dennis Kizziah says he has a lineman who will be popping up on many schools’ recruiting boards for the Class of 2005.
That player is Colby Ellison, a 6-foot-4, 290-pound offensive guard with a bright future.

“He’s going to be a very, very good player for us this year,” Taylor County coach Dennis Kizziah said, “and I think he’s going to be pretty well recruited. He’s got a lot of ability and a lot of the little things you look for from a coach’s perspective.
“Colby has good size and real good feet. He’s pretty agile for a guy that big. And he’s a powerful kid. He works really hard in the weightroom. He’s very dedicated. He wants to be the best there is out there.”
That’s reflected both in the weightroom (350 bench, 475 squat) and the classroom (3.0 GPA).
On the field, Ellison excels in both facets of offensive line play.
“He’s pretty balanced as far as run blocking and pass blocking,” Kizziah said. “He’s so strong, he just drives people off the ball when we’re running it. But he’s got those good feet that serve him well in pass blocking, too. He’s an all-around player.”
Kizziah said Ellison is receiving letters from numerous schools heading into spring.
“A lot of people didn’t know much about him, but they’re looking at LaGarrette (Blount) and like what they’ve seen of Colby,” he said. “Some of the same schools are sending them letters now – Alabama, Florida, Florida State, Iowa… a few others.”
