Florida LB likes Lions, Huskers

Three-star Miami (Fla.) Carol City linebacker Vernon Wilder has yet to finalize his visit plans, but says two schools have a good shot at landing spots on his calendar.
“Penn State is one, for sure, and I think Nebraska will be one also,” he said. “The other ones, I’m not real sure right now. I’m kind of waiting to see what some teams decide to do before setting any of them.”

Wilder (6-0, 243, 4.65) said he has offers from Penn State, Michigan State, Colorado State and Rutgers. He said Nebraska has indicated it will make it official soon, and that he gets steady interest from Syracuse, Wake Forest, Kansas State, Kansas, Maryland, Miami and Florida as well.
“I don’t have a favorite right now,” he said. “But Penn State is looking good to me. It’s a great program with a lot of tradition and a good football environment. I like their coaches a lot. I think I’d get a chance to play there kind of early where they lose some linebackers.
“Nebraska is the same way. They have great tradition there. I’ve never been to that part of the country before, but I hear they have some great fans. I want to go out there and check them out if they offer.”
Wilder recorded 120 tackles, 15 tackles for loss, one sack and one interception as a junior. He didn’t have his senior season stats at hand, but noted that he’s having a similar type year in helping lead Carol City to a 9-1 record entering the playoffs.
He is rated the No. 29 inside linebacker nationally by Rivals.com.
Academically, he maintains a 2.7 GPA and has scored an 800 on the SAT, putting him within close range of qualifying.
