Florida LB has surprise leaders

A pair of surprise leaders have emerged for three-star Miami (Fla.) Edison linebacker Brouce Mompremier.
“I’ve got Kansas and USF (South Florida) on top right now,” he said. “If I was picking today, it would be one of those.”

Told that pair might surprise some observers, Mompremier (6-0, 210, 4.6) had a quick answer: “It’s about having a chance to play. There’s lots of early playing time available on both of those teams. I don’t want to go somewhere and sit the bench for two years. I want to play. That’s the main thing to me.
"Plus, with USF, it's pretty close to home and I like Tampa. It's nice there. They're building a good program."
Rated the No. 11 outside linebacker in the nation by Rivals.com, Mompremier also has offers from Florida State, LSU, Tennessee and N.C. State, among others.
He has two official visits set up for December, but those may have to be rescheduled due to Edison’s run in the state playoffs. The team is 10-2 entering the third round this weekend, and is considered one of the top teams in the field.
“I have N.C. State on Dec. 5 and Kansas on Dec. 12,” he said. “We may have to switch those to January. USF is still on Jan. 9. That’s solid.”
Asked who was in the running for the other two spots, Mompremier gave the nod to Florida State and Tennessee.
“I’m still debating those other two,” he said, adding that LSU and Ohio State were also possibilities.
Mompremier finished the regular season with 129 tackles, four sacks and four forced fumbles. He’s also strong in the classroom, carrying a 3.6 GPA and a 20 on the ACT.
