Florida junior drawing major attention

Auburndale (Fla.) is home to one of the Sunshine State’s rising stars to watch for 2005.
Dedrick Davis (6-0, 195, 4.5) is coming off a junior season which saw him record more than 2,000 yards and 26 touchdowns in total offense and tally 61 tackles and three interceptions on the defensive side of the ball.

“He’s an athlete. There’s no better way to say it,” Auburndale coach Bob Williams said. “He plays all over the field for us – quarterback, running back, wide receiver, linebacker, defensive back. He does everything but drive the bus… And if the bus driver’s sick, he’s probably doing that for us, too.
“He’s just a very, very talented young man. We’re real excited about what the future holds for him.”
Davis earned third-team all-state honors and was named the area player of the year as a junior.
According to Williams, he’s already receiving heavy interest from a number of major programs.
“We’ve gotten a lot of mail from Iowa, Michigan, Notre Dame, Clemson, Tennessee and a few others,” he said. “And I’m sure this is just the beginning. Everybody’s going to be asking about this kid. He’s a big-time player.”
Davis’ junior season saw him rush for more than 1,200 yards and 17 touchdowns. He also passed for more than 400 yards and five scores while hauling in 400 yards receiving and four more TDs.
