Florida, Florida State already pursuing 2019 defensive back

It’s early in the recruitment of Brendan Gant. The class-of-2019 defensive back has miles to go until he’ll sign with a college and has more than two full seasons of high school football in front of him. What he also has are scholarship offers from both Florida and Florida State among others.

All indications are that Grant’s recruitment will be a contested one. Still, when he’s asked about an early frontrunner, he declines to go down the road too far.

As of right now I don't really have a leader,” Gant said via text on Tuesday night. “I’m really just sitting back, enjoying the process and observing.”

That will eventually change, though. It’s why the sophomore is already mulling visits. He’s seen a handful of college campuses already, but he’s hoping to expand his knowledge base in the coming months. And while he avoids naming a favorite school at all costs, he doesn’t mind admitting that fact that he’s already in possession of a “dream offer.”

“My dream offer was Florida because I've always been a huge fan,” Gant said. “But I can say Alabama would be another one because they're always a powerhouse in college football.”

In fact, for the time being, Gant’s entire recruitment centers around the wait for more offers. They’re certainly coming in time, as Gant has all the making of a national-level prospect. For no, though, things are difficult to project.

Some other schools I would like to see offer me are Miami, Notre Dame and Ohio State,” Gant said.

Gant attends Lakeland (Fla.) Kathleen High School and, though the 2019 class has not been ranked at this juncture, projects as one of the top defensive backs in the state of Florida.

RIVALS REACTION: Gant is playing his recruitment slowly, which is usually the smart play for a player of his young age. It’s why he doesn’t name favorites. That said, logic dictates that the Gators hold a slight edge at this early juncture. There’s no telling what will happen as Gant begins to take more visits, however, and new offers could shake things up.
