Florida first to offer 2020 in-state DB Desmond Dailey

Class of 2020 defensive back Desmond Dailey’s recruitment is just starting to take off, but he already received one very important offer.

“I just got offered by Florida recently,” the Bellview, Fla. Native said last weekend at the Orlando stop of the Rivals 3 Stripe Camp Series presented by adidas. “That was big to get my first offer from a school like that.”

Because of his close proximity to Gainesville, Dailey is very familiar with the program, even if he didn’t grow up as a fan.

“I’ve been there for visits in the past and I’m going to go back again soon,” Dailey said. “I’ve watched them a lot growing up but I never did root for them, I have always been an Alabama fan.”

Now that he’s a recruit, Dailey said he’s less concerned over who he’s a fan of and would rather focus on which schools are a fan of him. The Gators obviously fall into that category.

“They like how I bring down the ball and catch the ball and how I cover,” Dailey said. “They like their defensive backs to have ball skills and make plays and that’s what I do.”

With the Gators coaches having already made a visit to see Dailey at school, he’s planning on returning the favor soon.

“I have to make sure to go back soon,” he said. “I don’t know when yet. Hopefully in the spring. A junior day or something like that and then again in the summer.”

Now that the Gators are on board, Dailey said he doesn’t expect to wait long for more schools to join the field.

“I think South Carolina might be the next one,” he said. “A lot of schools are coming by in the spring so hopefully a lot of coaches will get to see what I can do.”
