Josh Balloon continues to pick up momentum with scholarship
offers from all corners of the nation.
Balloon, a member of the Rivals.com
Florida
Top 100 team and the No. 15 fullback in the nation, added his
most recent offer last week when Iowa State made it official. He's now
sporting offers from more than a dozen teams, including: Auburn, Ole Miss,
Alabama, Vanderbilt, Northwestern, Wisconsin, Purdue, Indiana, Wake Forest,
Boston College, Oregon State, Indiana, Cincinnati, San Diego State and South
Florida.
Is there a favorite among that mass of teams?
"I've not really got it down to that point yet. I've
kind of been waiting for the season to be over," he said. "I know of a
couple of places I'm probably going to make official visits to, so I guess
you could say those. I'll be visiting Purdue on Jan. 10, I think, and Ole
Miss will also get one.
"I may be giving a long look at Iowa State now.
They've got a good program and have been recruiting me pretty hard. They're
talking about me maybe playing tailback."
Balloon (6-0, 212, 4.45) is projected as a fullback
by most of the teams on his list, but said he was intrigued by the idea of
being more of a primary ball-carrier. Other teams have mentioned the
possibility of playing either fullback or linebacker, making the decision
once he got on campus and went through some workouts.
Jefferson has advanced to the third round of the
Class 4A playoffs with an 11-1 record. Balloon said he didn't know what kind
of offensive stats he'd amasssed this season, but noted he just went over
100 tackles at linebacker in last week's victory.
