Florida DE gets first offer

Titusville (Fla.) Astronaut defensive end John Cabbage recently picked up his first Division I-A scholarship offer and is getting serious attention from several more schools.
"Florida International offered," Cabbage said. "I'm just happy to have a Division I offer, especially going into the season. It gives me some security heading into my senior year definitely."

The 6-foot-1, 224-pounder is just getting acquainted with the Golden Panthers program.
"I know they have 30,000 students," Cabbage said. "They are an up and coming program that I look forward to learning more about."
Cabbage plans to head down to Miami to check out the FIU program within the next few weeks.
Hurlie Brown is recruiting Cabbage for the Golden Panthers.
Florida Atlantic, Navy and Division I-AA power Furman also have been expressing serious interest in Cabbage.
"Coach John Vandervere told me that the head coach at FAU, Howard Schnellenberger, doesn't give out early offers because he's be burned that way before," Cabbage said. "So they aren't going to offer until September at the earliest.
Colorado, Georgia Tech, Tennessee and Vanderbilt also have been recruiting Cabbage.
Cabbage won't be making an early decision.
"Unless I have just an unbelievable visit (to FIU)," he said. "I am going to take my time and wait. Most likely, I will wait until my season."
Cabbage had 60 tackles and five sacks during the 2005 season.
