Three-star Pensacola (Fla.) defensive back
Jhermaine McAroy is chomping at the bit to get his senior season under
way next week with the team's annual Jamboree warm-up.
"I'm very, very eager," he said. "I'm real hungry to get
back out there and play again, show what I can do. At least I hope I get the
chance to do that. Last year, nobody would throw at me. I'm ready to get some
picks this season."
McAroy, a 6-foot-2, 170-pound
cornerback with 4.48 speed and a 37-inch vertical, surrendered only
three catches to opposing receivers as a junior. He finished with 80 tackles and
two interceptions.
"I had to come all the way across the field to get those," he joked. "Nobody
would throw to my man."
Despite the lack of high interception numbers, college scouts are well aware of
McAroy's coverage skills. He's received offers from Clemson, LSU and Troy State,
and has been getting heavy interest in recent weeks from Florida State,
Louisville, South Carolina, North Carolina and Central Florida. Alabama, Auburn,
Notre Dame, Michigan, Syracuse, Mississippi State and Southern Miss have also
been staying in touch this summer.
"I don't really have a favorite or a list right now," he said. "I decided to
start looking more at everyone who was interested in me and see who had the best
to offer academically and athletically."
McAroy, a member of the Rivals Florida Top 100
team, is also a standout in the classroom with a 3.2 GPA. He says he wants to
pursue a degree in either computer engineering, international business or some
variation of both.
