Florida-based defensive back names early leaders

THE LATEST: Jaheim Singletary’s standing as a class-of-2022 prospect means there’s no need for him to rush into a commitment or speak in anything resembling absolutes when it comes to his recruitment. That said, on the heels of a school tour, the in-demand cornerback doesn’t mind naming a couple early favorites. Rivals.com recently caught up with Singletary to get the latest on his recruitment and discuss the schools that currently lead the way.

IN HIS WORDS

ON SCHOOLS THAT STAND OUT:

“Right now, it’s Tennessee and Florida. Those are the two I’m really interested in for now.”

ON TENNESEE

“With Tennessee, I love that environment. I just took a visit last week. The atmosphere on campus is incredible. The coaches, too. They are straight up with you. I left that visit really loving everything about it.”

ON WHICH TENNESSEE COACH MADE THE BIGGEST IMPRESSION:

“Coach Derrick Ansley for sure. He’s straight up with you. He told me stuff for real and he’s going to be there for you. He doesn’t just tell you what you want to hear, you know?”

ON FLORIDA:

“Oh man, I love the coaches. I love Coach [Torrian] Gray and I love Florida. Look, as soon as I got there, it just really felt like home. It’s a place I love.”

ON OTHER POSSIBLE VISITS:

“I always want to get back up to Florida, and I want to visit Alabama. That should be my last visit for now. I already went to South Carolina, North Carolina and Duke last week.”

ON HIS FAVORITE SCHOOL SO FAR:

“My favorite out of all of them? It’s Florida. It was really amazing there.”

ON FLORIDA STATE

“They really like me, but they haven’t offered yet. If they offer, they’ll be in the mix. They just want to see me a little bit more I guess.”

RIVALS REACTION: Things will change multiple times between now and Signing Day 2022, so it’s hard to put too much stock in anything as it relates to Singletary right now. That said, the Gators and Vols have a head start, which is never a bad thing. UF is the clear leader for the time being, but there’s plenty of time for Tennessee or another program to overtake the Gators. It feels as though another wave of offers could be on the way this fall.
