Florida athlete holds early offer

Blountstown (Fla.) athlete Ryan Baker holds one early scholarship offer from a Southeastern Conference program and has plenty of interest from a number of other schools.
"(Recruiting) is going pretty good I think," Baker said. "I got an offer from Ole Miss and I've been talking to Miami (Fla.) and they have told me they may offer."

The 6-foot, 200-pounder is being recruited by the Rebels as a running back and says he plans to head to Oxford in the near future to check out the program.
"I plan on going out to Ole Miss since they offered me to see the campus and see what it's like, things like that," he said.
There are other programs that Baker, who could also play safety or linebacker in college, is interested in. Those include Auburn, LSU, South Florida and Florida State. His interest in the Seminoles is high.
"I've been following Florida State since the Charlie Ward era," Baker said. "I talked to one of their coaches, but haven't really talked to them much since then."
There is one overriding aspect of a program that Baker is focused on.
"Tradition," he said. "That's big time. I want to play at a school with a winning tradition."
Baker has excellent speed and versatility. He's been clocked as fast as 4.4 seconds in the 40-yard dash. He was an All-State and All-Region selection and was a finalist for the Florida Class 2B Mr. Football award his junior year.
