Florida ATH finishes Midwest tour

When you’re a football player that has ran a 100-meter race in 10.51 seconds, your going to get noticed by college scouts. That’s exactly what St Thomas Aquinas’s David Marrero is getting—big time attention. Right now, he has 21 offers, 16 that are written. The 5-foot-10 and 190 speed-burner just returned home from visiting several teams in the Midwest unofficially. FlaRecruiting.com caught up with him to find out how his trips went.
“I went on my trips to mainly see Notre Dame and Northwestern,” Marrero said. “Those two programs are showing me a lot of interest. My top three schools right now are Stanford, Notre Dame and Northwestern. I would say that that all three of them are even now. I also have interest in Boston College, Florida and North Carolina State.”

Marrero made stops at Michigan, Michigan State, Notre Dame, Purdue, Indiana, Ohio State and Northwestern. He shared some of his experiences on each visit.
“My first stop was at Michigan”, Marrero said. “I met with Coach Carr, and check out their facilities. Michigan has interest in me at defensive back, but they didn’t offer. Michigan explained to me that they are real slow with their offers. They have only made six to seven offers so far. Next up was Michigan State. I talked with Coach Smith. They are recruiting me for running back, but haven’t offered yet either. I don’t think I fit into their system. Michigan State has had bigger backs like T.J. Duckett. The next day we drove down to South Bend, and we visited Notre Dame. They took me around everywhere. Some of the things we saw were the cathedral, the locker rooms and even the cafeteria. I sat down with Coach Willingham, and we talked for an hour. When we sat down, he gave me a written offer. He told me that I was only the fifth player to be offered so far by Notre Dame. The next place we visited was Purdue. I sat down with Coach Tiller. They have already offered me. My next visit was to Indiana. I met with Coach Dinardo. He’s a great guy. He showed me their depth chart. I would be the number two running back on the depth chart as a freshman. After my visit to Indiana, we were off to visit Ohio State. Coach Tressell took me around to see the stadium, and to check out the new business school. He showed me a highlight tape also. My final stop was to Northwestern, where I met with Coach Walker. They showed me some footage of what I would be doing. I like Northwestern because of their academics, and their wide-open attack. Their spead offense compliments my abilities.”
Florida State and Florida have verbally offered Marrero. The Noles are recruiting him as an athlete. The Gators want him for running back/slot receiver. Marrero told Flarecruiting.com that he had lukewarm interest in both Florida schools because they aren’t certain on where to play him.
Marrero will make a decision on what school to attend after he makes some official visit after the season is done.
