Fla. WR chooses SMU

Weston (Fla.) Cypress Bay wideout Kadeem Goulbourne committed to SMU yesterday over finalists Indiana and Michigan State.
Goulbourne gives the Ponies their second verbal pledge from the Sunshine State joining defensive backWilliam Jeanlys. Last year Delray Beach (Fla.) American Heritage safety Darrion Richardson chose to continue his career in Dallas.

SMU is starting to spot recruit Florida and they are having good success led by the efforts of secondary coach Derrick Odum.
"When I committed I spoke to the whole coaching staff, Coach (June) Jones, Coach (Hal) Mumme, Coach (Jason) Phillips, Coach Odum, basically everyone," recalled Goulbourne. "They all went crazy and everyone was happy. Coach Jones told me when I get there be ready to go and he hopes I'm ready to catch a lot of balls. He has Coach Mumme there who invented the Air Raid offense. It's a good deal for me."
The 6-foot-4, 194-pound receiver graduates in December and he will report to school in January.
Last fall, he helped his team reach the Class 8A state championship with a runner-up finish. This season didn't go as planned for Goulbourne or his team. He missed time with a foot injury and could never get on track. His team missed the playoffs and he began to focus on recruiting. The injury caused several schools to back off according to the two-star pass catcher. SMU continued to recruit him and he always remembered that.
"I knew SMU was the school for me when I injured my foot," stated Goulbourne. "After my injury a lot of people involved with my recruitment started showing their true colors. I understand at the end of the day it's a business, but SMU stuck by me since day one. They treated me like a five-star player and never backed off. The offer stood out because they bypassed their own state to come get me. That made it special to me. Now I'm going in to my college career with that chip on my shoulder."
Goulbourne said he is done with recruiting and he will not partake in any upcoming all-star games. He is focused on getting back to full strength and starting the next chapter in his football career.
