Fla. CB now with three offers

Spencer Boyd is a prospect to remember in the Class of 2010. Boyd, 5-10 and 167 pounds, plays on both sides of the ball for Cape Coral (Fla.) High School. This past season, despite missing his first three games with a hip injury, he still rushed for 620 yards (102) carries and scored eight touchdowns. Defensively, he recorded 30 tackles and one interception (104 yard return for a score). Most schools will likely recruit him as a corner.
"I have real good hips," Boyd said. "I can really flip my hips. I am quick and come out of my breaks real fast. I like man coverage and bump and run. I love to get in your face and jam. I have a lot of pride in my tackling. I watch guys like Sean Taylor and players that like to hit. You gain respect when you can hit that. I just love to hit."

Over the past week or so Boyd has received three scholarship offers. His first was from Duke. Then Wake Forest and Marshall came in. This past weekend he visited the Moutaineers. Martinsburg, West Virginia is where Boyd was born and he lived there until the third grade.
"West Virginia likes me as an athlete. I talked with their running back coach and he likes me as a running back. Doc Holliday likes me on defense.
"I am not used to the mountains and my ears kept popping. It's an older town but really nice. I mean that is a nice play. Everything on campus is state of the art. I really liked the coaching staff. They are some nice guys. Bill Stewart was great and very friendly. I really like him a lot."
Boyd said he grew up a fan of Miami. Now that he's being recruited he's opening things up to everyone, including the 'Canes, Mountaineers, and a host of other schools.
"Wake Forest and Duke are two great academic schools, especially Duke. They are just a step below an Ivy League school. Do you know what a scholarship is worth there? A lot. They were the first to offer me so that means something to me.
"I really grew up a fan of the Florida schools, especially Miami. But they have fallen off the last few years but are slowly getting back. I know they have recruited well.
"I am also a West Virginia fan because I was born there. I also like Florida, FSU, LSU, North Carolina and schools like that. They are all recruiting me."
Boyd will go to a junior day later this month at USF (2/18) and possibly UCF (2/28).
