Five-Star: Top defensive linemen

Defensive tackle was a loaded position with several top 2016 talents on hand, but Wilson was the best of the group. Wilson has the kind of size and athleticism to blow by most, but he also showed control and intelligence. He took more reps than anyone else at the camp, and he did not rely on one move to get wins. He made adjustments and sought advice from coaches. Of course, his first step was impressive, as were his violent hands. The overall performance stood out, to say the least.

DT
Dexter Lawrence
Wake Forest (N.C.)
Lawrence entered with a target on his back as the nation's No. 1 prospect, and it was easy to see what all the hype is about. Lawrence has a great build and he is able to keep his body low and play with great leverage. His win in the tie-breaker rep for the one-on-one championship of the Big Man Challenge was decisive and strong. He was able to get inside of his opponent throughout the competition and showed some nice counter moves when he had to use them.

DT
Rashan Gary
Paramus (N.J.) Paramus Catholic
It does not take long to notice Gary's motor and aggressive play. His hand placement gets a bit off at times and he gets a little high, but he more than makes up for it with his strength and explosive first step. Along with his power and quickness, he used a variety of pass rush moves to gain the advantage in one-on-one situations and won rep after rep.

DT
Julian Rochester
Powder Springs (Ga.) McEachern
Rochester was hot and cold on Saturday. During the morning one-on-one reps, he showed a quick first step, but he did not work his hands and tried to go straight down the middle of his opponent. During the Big Man Challenge, however, the Georgia commit did a better job of using his hands and attacking the offensive linemen. He showed more counter moves and was able to record several big wins in one-on-ones.

DT
Kendell Jones
Killeen (Texas) Shoemaker
Without a doubt, Jones is one of the best defensive linemen on the hoof. He is also very strong and very imposing to even the biggest opponent. He is still raw, but his strength allowed him to quickly overwhelm offensive linemen during the one-on-one portion of drills. The Alabama commit also showed a nice outside rip move that he used to get a few one-on-one wins.

WDE
Shane Simmons
Hyattsville (Md.) DeMatha
Simmons showed more motor in the afternoon than he did in the morning. He used his quick first step to get the outside edge on most opposing offensive linemen. The Penn State commit comes off the ball low and gets his hands into his opponent and uses a rip move to get pressure in the backfield. He was also one of the fastest defenders during the timed drills.
8
SDE
Malik Herring (2017)
Forsyth (Ga.) Mary Persons
Herring is a big defensive end and he used his ability to get the edge on opposing offensive tackles. He also did a good job of working across the face of his opponent in one-on-one drills as he shot inside. During the timed portion of the Big Man Challenge, he posted solid numbers. His combination of size, speed and strength caught a few looks.
