Five-Star: Ranking the Midwest

Onwenu earned first-team All-Challenge honors and was highly ranked in the Top Defensive Performers and Top Big Man Challenge Performers following Saturday's action. The Michigan commit also was one of the key reasons why Team Stealth took home the Big Man Challenge title. Onwenu was certainly in contention for the Offensive Line MVP award after dominating his one-on-one reps throughout the day. What jumps off the field about Onwenu is that at 6-foot-4 and 368 pounds, he is very strong at the point of attack, but also plays exceptionally light on his feet.

WR
Donnie Corley
Detroit (Mich.) King
Corley did not get many opportunities to showcase his abilities during the 7-on-7 tournament, but the opportunities he did have, he made count. The 6-foot-3, 190-pound wideout made a tremendous catch on a post route that resulted in a touchdown during pool play, then topped it later in the night with a spectacular one-handed grab in the corner of the end zone. Corley also hauled in several impressive fingertip grabs during the morning one-on-one session and showed why he is considered one of the best wide receiver prospects in the country.

LB
Daelin Hayes
Ann Arbor (Mich.) Skyline
For the first time in four Rivals Camp Series events, Hayes did not emerge with a position MVP award. The five-star prospect did not perform poorly, but in a setting that usually allows him to showcase the uncanny speed and athleticism he possesses for a 6-foot-3, 254-pound linebacker, Hayes had a rather pedestrian performance by his standards. The USC commit breezed through the drills portion of the event, showing remarkable movement skills, and he was very good in one-on-ones, but his 7-on-7 performance lacked the big plays we have come to expect.

DB
Lavert Hill
Detroit (Mich.) King
Hill was so impressive during the morning camp session that he ranked as the top defensive back performer after drill work and one-on-ones. The Penn State commit was able to check bigger receivers at the line and stay with smaller receivers down the field. During the 7-on-7 tournament, however, Hill was decidedly less effective, giving up several long passes and having trouble sticking with his man. The Rivals Camp Series: Cleveland defensive back MVP has had plenty of strong showing this off-season, and Saturday night's lapse was an anomaly.
6
WR
Donovan Peoples-Jones (2017)
Detroit (Mich.) Cass Tech
Like Corley, the 6-foot-1, 186-pound Peoples-Jones is a stretch-the-field, big-play wide receiver and did not get many chances to showcase that during the 7-on-7 tournament. He did produce a big catch and score for Team Tumblr in pool play, however, creating separation on a post route, then splitting the safeties for a 40-yard touchdown. Peoples-Jones' skill set certainly held up against the best in the country and he was regularly able to get separation against defensive backs, but the rising junior looked a little wide-eyed on the big stage.
7
DE
Xavier Kelly
Wichita (Kan.) East
If we had done an All-Lobby team during Friday's registration, Kelly would likely have made the list. The 6-foot-4, 241-pound defensive end certainly looks the part with long arms and good bulk on his frame. Similar to his showing at RCS: St. Louis, though, it took Kelly some time to adjust to the talent in Baltimore. He has the explosiveness to come off the edge and does a decent job handling the point of attack with those long arms, but his repertoire of pass rush moves is limited and once linemen figured out Kelly liked to go inside, they were able to stop him.
8
OL
Matt Farniok
Sioux Falls (S.D.) Washington
It was an up-and-down day for Farniok, who previously won a position MVP award at the Chicago Rivals Camp when he was a sophomore. The 6-foot-5, 308-pound offensive tackle took awhile to get adjusted to the level of talent in Baltimore and had trouble during the morning one-on-one session. When the Big Man Challenge started that evening, however, Farniok was better acclimated and was able to register several wins to help Team Stealth to a Big Man Challenge title. Farniok has great size and is decently athletic for the tackle position. His challenge will be to improve hand placement and develop more of a mean streak.
