MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Five-star quarterback Jameis Winston of Hueytown (Ala.), a longtime Florida State commit, confirmed Wednesday he will make an official visit to Ohio State.
The reason?
"I talked to [Buckeyes coach Urban] Meyer the first day he had got hired," Winston told Rivals.com. "I just want to go down there, check it out and see how things are with him."
Winston is interested in Ohio State partly because of the success Meyer has had in the past with dual-threat quarterbacks when he was coach at Florida and Utah.
"Basically, he was telling me about Tim Tebow and Alex Smith, and developing them," Winston said. "And, you know, he had Cam Newton for a little while."
According to Winston, he is unsure when he will visit the Buckeyes.
"I don't have any more of my official visits planned out," said Winston, who is competing this week in the Alabama-Mississippi All-Star Classic.
During an interview with Rivals.com on Monday, the 6-foot-4, 200-pounder said he was "solid" with his commitment to the Seminoles, whom he has yet to officially visit. He visited Alabama last weekend, and also has been courted heavily by programs such as Auburn, LSU and Stanford. According to Winston, Auburn and Stanford could also get officials.
