Five-star LB takes unofficial visit

Five-star linebacker Rey Maualuga (6-2, 235, 4.5) from Eureka, Calif., took an unofficial visit to Oregon this past weekend. But he didn’t commit to the Ducks. He is still going through the process.
“Oregon was fun,” Maualuga said. “It was just me and a friend hanging out for a weekend.”

“I will take a visit to USC when they play Notre Dame,” Maualuga said. “I could make my decision on what school shortly after my visit.”
Maualuga already has taken official visits to Nebraska and Oregon and he enjoyed both visits.
The Notre Dame Fighting Irish could get a visit if Maualuga doesn’t pull the trigger before hand.
Maualuga will participate in the USA All-American Bowl game held in San Antonio, Texas.
Maualuga was selected all-state and all-county for his junior season performance after racking 110 solo tackles, 36 assists for a total of 146 tackles. He also had an outstanding 43 tackles for loss, four pass breakups, two fumble recoveries and one interception.
Another impressive stat that Maualuga achieved was he had four defensive touchdowns and five offensive touchdowns as a junior.
“Rey brings a tremendous combination of desire, competitiveness and athleticism,” Eureka coach Jack Lakin said in an earlier interview. “He likes to play the game at a high level of physical play. Ray is the real deal.”
Maualuga was selected by Rivals.com to the Rivals100 team for the class of 2005. He landed as the nation’s No. 24 prospect at any position.
Rivals.com also rates Maualuga as the nation’s No. 1 inside linebacker and he was selected by Rivals.com to the preseason California Top 100 team as a the Golden State’s No. 3 at any position.
