Five-star LB has new leader

City College of San Francisco linebacker Lance Mitchell has a new leader. And it's team that Mitchell hasn't talked a lot about in the past.
"It's now Texas," Mitchell, a five-star linebacker and one of the top junior college players in the nation, said. "I just got back from Texas a little bit ago. It was my best visit out of all them. I was blown away. Texas is my leader now."

Mitchell said he is leaning toward Texas because of a few things - the players and Texas strength coach Mad Dog.
"He gets those guys ready for combat," Mitchell said. "There isn't a better strength coach than him. You should have seen the workouts he had those guys doing. I was really impressed at the workout program and their weight facilities."
Mitchell said after Texas it is Washington at No. 2 and then Oklahoma at No. 3. USC and Florida are sitting at No. 4 and No. 5 on his list. He's set to visit Florida on Dec. 14 and has already been on the other visits.
"I was hosted by Cory Redding," Mitchell said. "We went down to Sixth Street and hung out with the players. I mean it was a Sunday night and the town was hopping. I can't imagine what it's like after a game or on Friday or Saturdays. That was something else that was impressive.
“I liked what I saw at Washington and Oklahoma, but they didn’t compare to what I saw when I was at Texas this weekend.”
Mitchell said at this point he’d visit Florida and then allow the head coaches from his favorite schools to come in and make in-home visits. He'll then announce his decision on Dec. 19 - the first day that mid-term junior college players can sign national letters-of-intents.
