Long Beach (Calif.) Poly five-star cornerback Iman Marshall learned about his offer from Alabama on Thursday night and as the story goes the Crimson Tide had offered a while back but Marshall never knew about it.
After talking with Alabama five-star quarterback commit Blake Barnett, out of Corona (Calif.) Santiago, the situation was cleared up.
And now there is serious interest.
"It was interesting how I received the information," Marshall said.
"Blake Barnett hit me up and tells me that Lane Kiffin wants me to come down in January. I told him I didn't receive an offer from them and then Blake hit up Lane and talks to him and he told him they offered me a while ago but I wasn't aware of the information.
"I guess it was a lack of communication, that's all."
Major programs from across the country have offered Marshall, rated No. 1 at his position and fourth overall in the 2015 class by Rivals.com, but there's no question the Alabama one is major. There has been no decision on an official visit in January but it could happen.
"It's a big, big offer," said Tony Marshall, Iman's father.
"They develop DBs really well, the best in the nation right up there with LSU and Florida State as far as developing their DBs. It's very, very big. We have to come together and decide exactly what's going to go on, how the visits are going to go. That's something we have to discuss."
Marshall will take his first official visit this weekend to Notre Dame. Trips to LSU and Oklahoma are also planned and the five-star cornerback has set his trip to Florida State for Jan. 16.
His fifth trip is still undecided. The uncertain Michigan coaching situation could open up a free weekend for Marshall to get to Tuscaloosa but nothing is settled yet.
In a few weeks, Marshall will compete in the Under Armour All-America Game and there will be a lot of recruiting chatter during his time in Orlando. USC, UCLA and Stanford are also under consideration but no official trips are planned to the local schools.
"I'm still open to everything," Marshall said. "I'm going to be talking around and asking around about all the schools.
"I'm just going to try to get information from players about their schools that they'll be attending. There will be Florida State dudes, Notre Dame dudes, SC dudes, all kinds of dudes. I'll ask them about their programs and what intrigues them."
